Prof Richard Ling secures research grant award from Telenor ASA

Professor Richard Ling was awarded a $65,880 grant from Telenor ASA for the project titled “Ethnographic Study of People's Use of Mobile Telephony in Myanmar”. The project examines the social consequences of the commercialisation of mobile communication in Myanmar.

Telenor and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information has established a research collaboration to gain unique insights into how mobile services affect a developing country’s social and economic dimensions. It will also provide a foundational study of mobile communication at the ethnographic level and later develop more quantitative analyses of mobile phone adoption in a developing country.
