Video documentaries produced by students from Nanyang Technological University, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information were shown during a short film festival, which was held on 26th April 2016 at The URA Centre Function Hall, as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority(URA) Architectural Heritage Awards’ programme.

These 11 short film projects document the past and present lives of Singapore’s conserved buildings and uncover the meticulous work that goes into their restoration projects. The films also bring about fresh perspectives on these heritage gems and reveal their meaning and value to a wider community.

The video documentaries are part of an image and sound production class’s final project for the CS2025 Image and Sound Production Course, which was conducted by Senior Lecturer Kym Campbell. In this course, students would learn how to produce a series of documentaries, work on a real client brief, conduct research and manage budget. Furthermore, students are to work towards a production plan within a limited time frame of 13 weeks. It is particularly challenging for the students as this project is only one of a multitude of other projects, which the students have to do within the 13 weeks. It is also worthy to note that some of the students have never had any hands-on experience with a camera before.

The Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Home Affairs and National Development, Mr Desmond Lee, presented the award to the top three short documentaries. The top three winners answered questions from more than 100 audience members. The URA made their final decision for the award based on several evaluation criteria; such as the content of the short videos, reflection of culture, people as well as concept of place and heritage. Following are the winners:
